The Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy is pleased to announce that applications are now open for both the Undergraduate Fellowship and Graduate Fellowship for the 2026–27 academic year. These annual fellowships support University of Pennsylvania students whose research, writing, and public engagement explore the meaning, practice, and future of democracy—locally, nationally, and globally.

On November 20, 2025, the Penn Political Union held the Fall 2025 All-Parties Debate. Penn Democrats, Penn for Liberty, and College Republicans gathered to debate various high-importance issues in front of an at-capacity crowd of their peers.

On November 19, 2025, the Andrea Mitchell Center co-sponsored an event with Penn Washington with Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. Benson, along with Maegan Vasquez of the Washington Post, engaged in dialogue on protecting democracy and bringing passion to public service. The event was introduced by Andrea Mitchell Center Associate Director, Ibrahim Bakri.

Mitchell Center Executive Committee Member and Walter H. Annenberg Professor of History Sophia Rosenfeld has been long-listed for the prestigious Cundill History Prize for her book, The Age of Choice: A History of Freedom in Modern Life. The Cundill History Prize recognizes and rewards the best history writing in English.
