ON THE BASIS OF RESEARCH SUPPORTED by his Mitchell Center fellowship, Parker Abt — one of this year's Undergraduate Research Fellows — wrote an eye-opening piece published today in the Washington Post. Abt describes the dire conditions suffered by American citizens living in the colonias near the southwest border. Lacking reliable access to running water, electricity, and government services, they have faced challenges for decades reminiscent of the recent disasters of Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma.
