The Penn Political Union launched their 2021-22 year of debates and speaking events with a welcome event for new students, held at the Kislak Center in Van Pelt Library on August 28. Debating the resolution, "Institutions should promote initiatives aimed at diversity, equity and inclusion," were Marc Edayadi (Progressive Caucus Chair) and Matteo Akbarpour (PPU Member) in favor and Joshua Rose (Conservative Caucus Chair) and Adam Robbins (Libertarian Caucus) opposed. The more than 75 members of the audience asked questions that challenged both sides and ended by voting narrowly in opposition to the resolution. The next PPU debate will be on September 14 at 7:00 pm in the PCPSE Forum.
